    • @StarkKnives
      @StarkKnives 21 день тому

      I like being able to see the burr forming in this direction. It’s easier when it’s fast like on a belt vs stone.

    does coffee work on D2 steel?

    • @StarkKnives
      @StarkKnives Місяць тому

      I haven’t tried it but I’d be a little concerned that the composition of D2 might not lend itself well to coffee etching. The coffee might not be strong enough. You could give it a shot and if it doesn’t work, use something stronger like ferric chloride acid.

    • @SirPraiseSun
      @SirPraiseSun Місяць тому

      @@StarkKnives i tried lemon and vinegar only made a mild change so d2 might be an odd 1, ill try coffee if not then ferric chloride, thanks for the help.

    • @StarkKnives
      @StarkKnives Місяць тому

      @SirPraiseSun yeah I know D2 has some stainless properties so it’ll likely need something pretty strong to have a real effect on it.

    what is the speed of the sander......is it fine to sharpen at high speed

    • @StarkKnives
      @StarkKnives 5 місяців тому

      I think mine goes up to 1800 rpm or something but I usually turn it slower. It can be okay to sharpen at high speed but you want to make sure you do quick passes and dunk in water to prevent the heat from building up.

    I've always thought it makes more sense to sharpen. In the direction you do. I've seen some popular people on UA-cam sharpen with the belt going towards the edge. Rather than away, and that seems to me like it would wear the belt. Out of a lot fasir, is that why you sharpen away?

    • @StarkKnives

      I like it because I can really easily see the burr being raised and I don’t worry about the edge catching. :)

      It is real. The pattern is on the entire blade, so not sure what you mean exactly. If you mean under the handle, it’s just harder to see since I didn’t polish it as much since it would be getting covered by the scales.

      Nice! I’d say they usually take 1-2 weeks once the order is placed. In my experience, a stencil can be used for at least 25-40 knives before they start to show signs of wear. It probably depends on how you use them too.
